Libby Schaaf has been appointed as the president and CEO of the Bay Area Council, effective May 4. She replaces John Grubb, who served as interim president after Jim Wunderman's resignation. Schaaf previously served as Oakland's mayor from 2015 to 2023, where she oversaw a significant building boom and increased affordable housing production. She founded Oakland Promise and created an equity-based paving plan. Schaaf gained national attention for opposing the Trump administration's immigration policies and managed a police scandal during her tenure.
