On March 13, Oakland will celebrate the resurgence of local sports with an event featuring Oakland Ballers GM Laura Geist, Oakland Roots co-founder Tommy Hodul, and other influential figures. They aim to rebuild community spirit and engage youth through sports. Amid feelings of loss and anger due to teams leaving, this gathering focuses on local organizations creating vibrant opportunities and fandom. The night will include discussions and performances to inspire Oaklands' sports culture and foster a sense of unity in cheering for home-grown teams.
We invite you to join us on Thursday, March 13 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the New Parkway Theater, where The Oaklandside's arts and community reporter Azucena Rasilla will moderate an inspiring conversation.
Each are helping to fill the sports void for local fans in a unique way, while fostering community, creating opportunities for local youth, and building new spaces where Oaklanders can cheer again.
