During the NBA All-Star Game weekend, NBA stars, including Stephen Curry, volunteered in Oakland schools to inspire local youth. Curry emphasized the significance of their presence in the community. Together with his foundation, they organized 300 volunteers to help improve local schools, including East Oakland Pride, by planting trees, painting murals, and stocking libraries with new books. Principal Michelle Grant praised these efforts, highlighting the transformation of playgrounds and their positive impact on students. Fifth grader Vasahti Graham recognized the community's commitment, noting the care reflected in her school’s improvement.
Oakland has lost a lot over the years, in terms of sport franchises, and that hope and inspiration. For us to remain present there and plant our flag there, is really important.
We are planting trees, bushes and shrubs. A lot of those will be going in today. We will be painting a lot of murals, both inside and outside.
The way it looked, like they actually tried. They put their love into it. So, the school actually looks really nice.
Now we have 80 trees. We have all of this beautiful greenery. My kids come out, they play. They are excited.
