On Wednesday, a suspect was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run fatality of UC Berkeley professor emeritus Michael Burawoy, who was struck while crossing a street in Oakland. Burawoy, 77, succumbed to injuries at the hospital after the incident. Evidence linked the suspect to the crash, including Burawoy's hearing aid found on the suspect's vehicle. The suspect faces serious charges, including vehicular manslaughter. The professor’s death prompted mourning within the UC Berkeley community, underscoring his significant contributions to sociology over nearly five decades.
The Oakland Police Department said the crash is still an ongoing investigation and urged anyone with information to contact the traffic investigations unit at 510-777-8570.
