A weekend in Oakland was marred by significant gun violence, highlighted by four shootings occurring within a 24-hour timeframe. The first incident near the Fox Theater left three individuals injured, one critically, while the subsequent shootings led to two fatalities, including a 19-year-old woman. Local police acted swiftly at the crime scenes, but no suspects have been identified. This alarming trend has raised concerns as Oakland's homicide count for the year increases to 31, surpassing last year's total at the same time.
The first of four shootings, which all happened within a 24-hour period on Sunday, happened around 1:15 am near the Fox Theater, in the area of 19th Street and Telegraph Avenue in Oakland's Uptown.
As KTVU reports, Oakland police officers responded quickly to the scene as they were just a few blocks away at the time, and they found three victims at the scene, one of whom was reported to be in critical condition after being taken to the hospital.
No suspect information has been made public. Shootings continued in Oakland on Sunday night, with a fatal shooting occurring around 9:08 pm on the 1700 block of International Boulevard.
Oakland has now seen 31 homicides this year to date, up from 28 at this time last year.
