The National Weather Service has issued an updated frost advisory for several regions, including North Bay Interior Valleys and Southern Salinas Valley, effective Saturday from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. The advisory warns of temperatures dropping to 32 degrees, creating frost risk, particularly threatening to vulnerable populations such as the unhoused. It highlights the dangers of hypothermia and advises on protective measures for plants and shelters available across different counties for those in need during these extreme conditions.
Cold conditions will be hazardous to sensitive populations such as unhoused individuals. Cold conditions can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure, the NWS said.
Frost advisories are issued from May to October (but can be extended if necessary) when temperatures, winds, and sky cover are favorable for frost development.
