Briefly

JCC East Bay, founded in 1978 and currently located at 1414 Walnut St., is selling its building after 43 years and will move operations to a new campus in Rockridge, Oakland. The decision comes as the current historic building faces operational challenges. Scheduled to open in 2026, this transition aims to provide a better environment for community members and improve financial sustainability for JCC East Bay.
JCC East Bay is selling its Walnut Street building after 43 years, moving to Rockridge to better serve community needs and expand its programs.
As the needs of our community grow, and the historic building at 1414 Walnut ages, we need to be in spaces where we can meet the current and future demands.
Selling the property will also give the nonprofit critical transition cash and reserve funds, which are vital for our future and financial stability.
The new Rockridge campus will accommodate 15-20 Jewish organizations and double the enrollment capacity for the preschool program, enhancing community engagement.
