NYC public school system got billions more in funding since 2020 despite shrinking enrollment: analysis

Per-student spending at K-12 NYC Department of Education schools is expected to hit $39,304 in FY2025, a 26.3% increase ($8,185 more/student) since 2020.

Between fiscal years 2020 and 2025, total Department of Education (DOE) spending climbed as enrollment fell, with an increase of $5.2 billion (15.2%) in FY2024 alone.
