Briefly

No chairs. Missing blackboards. A lack of bathrooms. Schools in Haiti's capital and beyond are crumbling as gang violence deepens poverty and disrupts basic government services. UNICEF announced a $2.5 million grant to help 75,000 children through various initiatives.
Yasmine Sherif, UNICEF's executive director, emphasized the critical need for international support to address the educational deficit in Haiti caused by violence. She highlighted the impact of gangs, with over 2,500 people killed or injured in the first quarter.
"Education is part of the solution," stated Sherif, pointing out its potential to combat extreme poverty, violence, enhance political stability, and foster a dependable workforce in Haiti.
