
Gorey Bowls Club hosted the East Coast Bowling League awards night on Saturday, May 16 at the Loch Garman Arms Hotel in Gorey, Co. Wexford. Clubs from the East Coast league gathered to mark the end of the 2026 league season. Committee members Breda Matthews and Robert Donnelly presented awards to winning teams. Redcross received the award for winning the Trips Competition, and Aughrim received the Ladies Players Winners trophy. Aughrim were presented the A Division trophy, while Gorey were awarded runner up in their first A Division season after success in 2025. Kilcoole won the B League, Newtown were runner up in the B League, and Gorey received the Millennium Cup winners trophy. Gorey also celebrated its 40-year anniversary while serving as Chair of East Coast Bowls for the past two years. Clubs from Shankill to Gorey finish the season with special matches including mixed singles, mixed doubles, millennium cup, and champion of champions. Gorey Bowls Club meets every Monday and Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. in the Old School Hall on Charlottes Row, Gorey.
"For the past two years, the club has acted as Chair of East Coast Bowls which is the reason Gorey has hosted the awards night. The club was founded in 1985 and were delighted to celebrate their 40 year anniversary while acting as Chair. At the end of the league season, each club in the east coast region from Shankill to Gorey hold special matches such as mixed singles, mixed doubles, millennium cup, and champion of champions to end the season in style."
