The ABC7 Exclusive Storm Impact Scale explained
The Storm Impact Scale assigns storms numbers 1 through 5 based on expected rainfall and associated impacts. Number 1 indicates a light storm with half an inch or less of rain, typically lasting a few hours. Number 2 indicates 0.5 to 1 inch of rain and possible scattered power outages. Number 3 indicates 1 to 2 inches with hazardous roads, minor flooding, and numerous power outages. Number 4 indicates 2 to 3 inches with moderate flooding, widespread mudslides, and widespread power outages. Number 5 indicates three inches or more with extreme flooding, impassable roads, and multi-day power outages. Live Doppler radar and AccuWeather tracking support monitoring, and viewers are encouraged to tag photos with #abc7now.
