Aid workers suffered deadliest year in 2023, says UN DW 08/19/2024
Briefly

In 2023, a record 280 aid workers were killed worldwide, marking it the deadliest year for the global humanitarian community, with a 137% increase from 2022.
The Gaza Strip accounted for over half of the fatalities, with 163 aid workers killed mainly due to Israeli air strikes following the Hamas attack on Israel.
Interim OCHA chief Joyce Msuya condemned the situation, stating that the normalization of violence against aid workers and the lack of accountability is 'unacceptable' and 'harmful'.
Conflicts in South Sudan and Sudan also severely impacted humanitarian workers, reporting 34 and 25 fatalities respectively, indicative of extreme levels of violence in these regions.
