Plans to enhance international train travel from London St Pancras station include new direct routes to cities in Germany, Switzerland, and France. The proposals aim to increase passenger capacity significantly from 1,800 to nearly 5,000 per hour. Currently, Eurostar monopolizes the Channel Tunnel routes, but new agreements with Getlink suggest expansion opportunities for various operators to enhance connectivity. This initiative aims to compete with air travel by promoting low-carbon mobility and could facilitate services to several major European cities, though timelines remain unconfirmed.
Many European cities could be reached directly by train in under six hours which we believe is really competitive with short-haul air travel.

Virgin acknowledged that it would be a 'huge undertaking' to establish a new cross-Channel operator but said the route was 'ripe for change with plenty of room and potential for new competition at St Pancras and through the Tunnel'.
London St Pancras Highspeed believes it is possible for train services to Bordeaux, Cologne, Frankfurt, Geneva, Marseille and Zurich to be created.
