The EU listed Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation in response to brutal repression of protesters. The IRGC played a significant role in suppressing demonstrations and in transnational repression. The designation freezes assets and criminalises any financial or material support. The EU added 15 Iranian government officials and six organisations to its sanctions list for serious human rights violations, including the interior minister Eskandar Momeni and several IRGC commanders. Sanctioned entities include the Iranian Audio-Visual Media Regulatory Authority and software companies involved in censorship, trolling, disinformation and internet disruption. The EU has now sanctioned 247 individuals and 50 entities over human rights violations.
