Hospitals described as "under-performing" have been written to by Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill. The hospitals are regarded as failing to deliver the benefits of consultants who signed up to new €300,000-a-year contracts. Letters labelled "of concern" were sent to facilities in Dublin, the west and the north-west after the minister said they were not reaching their potential. The minister said she would be contacting hospitals in Cork and Kerry soon. The correspondence aims to address productivity shortfalls and to ensure that the new consultant contracts yield intended service delivery and efficiency improvements across the health service.
