Journalist union condemns Israeli settler attack on DW DW 07/06/2025
Briefly

Two DW journalists were attacked by Israeli settlers in the West Bank village of Sinjil. The German ambassador to Israel and the DJV journalists' union condemned the incident. DJV's Federal Chairman stated radical settlers should not attack media professionals with impunity. The DW team, targeted while covering a protest, escaped unharmed but faced significant property damage. Other journalists were also forced to flee during the incident. In response, DW's Director General demanded the Israeli government ensure journalists' safety, stating press freedom is crucial for democracy.
"It is unacceptable that radical settlers are hunting down media professionals with impunity. This must not remain without consequences," said Federal Chairman Mika Beuster on Sunday.
"DW condemns this attack on our colleagues who had traveled to Sinjil to cover a planned protest against settler violence," said Limbourg in a statement.
"We strongly demand that the Israeli government guarantee the safety of all journalists in the West Bank. Freedom of the press...is an indispensable pillar of any democracy," he added.
Germany's ambassador to Israel, Steffen Seibert, also expressed his concern..."The freedom of press and the safety of journalists must be ensured at all costs."
