Target’s summer section includes many heavy polyester floral dresses, but additional searching reveals several dresses with mostly cotton blends at similar price points. Cotton-based styles offer crisp silhouettes, more elevated drape, and thicker fabric that improves opacity and reduces a see-through appearance. Similar cotton poplin or seersucker constructions are used by higher-end brands, making these Target finds feel more worthwhile despite the lower cost. Natural fibers can show natural wrinkles, especially when items have been tossed into bags and placed on racks without ironing or steaming. A handheld steamer can quickly refresh the fabric and improve the final look.
"While I initially walked into Target and was confronted with many heavy polyester floral dresses (more on that next), as I dug through the racks a little more, I was so pleasantly thrilled to find several pieces with mostly cotton composition at this price point. There were both long and short options, ranging from casual basics to more trend-forward styles, which I appreciated."
"Overall, I'd lean towards dresses made mostly of cotton for their crisp silhouettes, which create a more elevated drape, and their thicker fabric, which provides better opacity (less see-through look). In fact, many higher-end brands use similar cotton poplin or seersucker constructions, just at a steeper price point, which makes these styles feel especially worth it."
"The only downside, which you can see in the earlier photos, is that natural fibers tend to have what I view as a "natural" wrinkle. Sometimes I find it's part of the look, but keep in mind the dresses on the racks at Target were likely tossed out of bags and thrown on the rack - no ironing or steaming. A nice handheld steamer (I have this one from Amazon) will do the trick!"
