The V&A Museum's fashion gallery, a significant part of its collection since 1909, will close on May 4 for a year-long refurbishment. The existing design, which incorporates a central circular display taking away from the room's original grandeur, has been deemed ineffective. After the renovations, the space will reopen in Spring 2026 as the Burberry Gallery, highlighting the longstanding relationship between Burberry and British fashion. During the renovation, access to the fashion collection will be available at the upcoming V&A East Storehouse beginning May 31, 2025.
Founded in the same decade, for over 150 years the V&A and Burberry have been pillars of British fashion. Global in our reach, whilst champions of UK art and design, we share a commitment to ensuring our proud heritage inspires the next generation of creatives.
The fashion gallery will close on Sunday the 4th May, but access to the V&A's fashion collection will be available to researchers at V&A East Storehouse, which is opening on 31st May 2025.
The current gallery, established in 1909, has been constraining due to its awkward design, resembling more of a corridor than an effective gallery space.
The refurbished gallery will reopen in Spring 2026 and will be known as the Burberry Gallery.
