Mortal Kombat 2 Looks Hokey In All The Right Ways
Briefly

Mortal Kombat 2 has released its first trailer featuring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, who appears to be a washed-up action star. Despite lacking powers and martial arts training, Cage is drawn into the Mortal Kombat tournament, offering a new angle on his character. The film includes significant elements from the franchise, such as Shao Kahn and Noob Saibot. The portrayal of Cage allows for informative exposition about the tournament, which was absent in the first film, and the production reportedly has a bigger budget for this sequel.
We start him at a very low point. His career is completely in the dumps. He has no self-confidence. He has neglected his martial arts training. And at his lowest point, he gets called up to, essentially, be a warrior that represents the Earthrealm and fight for the very future of humanity.
Are you shitting me? You don't have any powers!?" demands the returning Kano in the trailer. "Nope. Just incredibly handsome," says Cage.
By having Cage being completely unaware of the tournament and its rules, the movie has a good excuse for explaining everything to the audience.
Honestly, this looks like it should have been the first movie.
