The Sublime Sentimental Value Is the Toast of This Year's Cannes Film Festival
Briefly

In Joachim Trier's film "Sentimental Value," Nora, an aspiring actor, grapples with the arrival of her estranged father Gustav, a filmmaker who left her family years ago. Their relationship lacks open communication, largely due to their similar personalities and emotional barriers. As Gustav offers Nora a role in his first film in many years, the sincerity of his intentions is questioned. When rejected, he recruits another actress, Rachel Kemp, heightening the tension as Nora must confront her emotions towards her father amidst her career ambitions.
"Nora and Gustav can't communicate effectively, reflecting deeper intimacy issues; both prefer to channel emotions into their work rather than confront them personally."
"Gustav's return, under the guise of casting Nora in his film, questions whether he genuinely seeks reconciliation or just a compelling narrative for his project."
