Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau announced the arrest of ten suspects allegedly involved in assisting Mohamed Amra, a dangerous criminal accused of gangland murders and drug trafficking. Amra escaped during a violent attack on a prison van in May that resulted in two staff fatalities. Following an extensive search, culminating in his capture in Bucharest, authorities utilized facial recognition and fingerprint technology. The arrests reflect a collaborative effort to address rising gang violence, with Prime Minister Francois Bayrou commending law enforcement's dedication.
"They are suspected of having helped in the preparation and execution of the escape, and having helped the fugitive to hide," said Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau.
"After a manhunt lasting several months, Amra has been arrested, finally!" Prime Minister Francois Bayrou stated, expressing relief and gratitude towards law enforcement.
