"The court determined that Lafarge, the world's largest cement manufacturer, funneled around 5.6 million euros to groups such as the Islamic State and Nusra Front to sustain its operations in Syria."
"Lafarge had invested 680 million euros into a factory in Syria in 2010, just before the country descended into a civil war that lasted over a decade."
"Before the French case, Lafarge had already pled guilty in a US lawsuit for funding the Islamic State and Nusra Front between 2013 and 2015 to keep its Jalabiya plant operational."
A Paris court convicted Bruno Lafont, former CEO of Lafarge, and eight others for financing terrorism in Syria. Lafont received a six-year prison sentence, and Lafarge was fined 1.125 million euros. The court found that Lafarge had funneled approximately 5.6 million euros to terrorist groups, including the Islamic State and Nusra Front, to maintain operations in Syria. Lafarge had previously invested 680 million euros in a factory in Syria before the civil war began, and had already pled guilty in a US case for similar actions.
