A 38-year-old volunteer firefighter in eastern France was critically injured when deliberately struck by a motorist performing high-speed stunts in an 'urban rodeo.' This incident, part of a nationwide issue with dangerous antics, occurs against the backdrop of a government crackdown on the activity. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau planned to visit the scene, while local leaders called for zero tolerance for such stunts, which are often defended as a form of urban subculture. The Justice Minister decried the 'scourge' as harmful to public safety.
"It appears that there was an intention to hit a firefighter," he told broadcaster BFMTV.
"Zero tolerance for these individuals who lack judgement and show no respect for public safety and order," he said on X.
Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin said the 'scourge of urban rodeos' was 'ruining the lives of many French people.'
The rowdy races and stunts... have led to multiple accidents.
