Google announced that support for older Nest Learning Thermostats will cease, losing smart capabilities while still functioning manually. Users can control temperature, but app and Assistant access will be removed. The decision affects the first-generation (2011) and second-generation (2012, 2014) models with a support end date of October 25, 2025. Google will offer discounts on newer models to affected users and will entirely withdraw its thermostat products from the European market due to compatibility complexities with local heating systems.

Google said it was making the change to 'fully invest' in the latest generation of thermostats.
Heating systems in Europe are unique, and have a variety of hardware and software requirements that make it challenging to build for the diverse set of homes.
The thermostats will still work... but you will not be able to control anything with the Nest app or Google Assistant.
