Traveling between Berlin and Munich can be accomplished through various transport methods including trains, planes, buses, and cars. Since the high-speed rail line opened in 2017, train ridership has surged, covering 40% of journeys, while flights account for around 35%. Trains take roughly 4-4.5 hours and can be priced as low as â¬17 if booked in advance, alongside discounts available. Moreover, trains offer benefits such as central city access and a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to other modes.
According to Deutsche Bahn, the number of train passengers between Berlin and Munich doubled to about 3.6 million per year after a high-speed rail line opened between the two cities in 2017, which translates to approximately 10,000 train passengers per day.
Travelling by train has a number of additional advantages, including city centre departure and arrival, freedom from security checks, and the smallest carbon footprint - roughly 22kg of CO2 - of all the available options.
