Why Google's data center plans spark concern in Germany DW 11/13/2025
On November 11 in Berlin, Google announced a €5.5 billion ($6.37 billion) investment in Germany over the next four years, including a new data center in Dietzenbach and expansions in Munich, Frankfurt and Berlin. The investment aims to provide the computing power required for AI applications. German officials hailed the plans as a boost for digital ambitions and as evidence that Germany is an attractive location for data center investment, and called it an investment in innovation, artificial intelligence, climate-neutral transformation and future jobs. Google said the investment would secure around 9,000 jobs annually until 2029. Some experts welcomed the move but urged caution.
"We want to make Germany a leading location for data centers in Europe,"
"Germany is already an attractive location."
"a genuine investment in the future in innovation, artificial intelligence , climate-neutral transformation, and future jobs in Germany."
"secure around 9,000 jobs in Germany annually until 2029."
