Why Munich is planning to change its recycling rules
Briefly

In 2027, Munich will introduce yellow bins for plastic and metal waste as part of a revamped waste management system. A successful pilot test led to positive feedback, paving the way for citywide implementation. These bins, placed alongside existing waste containers in residential buildings, aim to ease the recycling process by reducing trips to distant recycling sites. The yellow bins specifically cater to food packaging, metals, and plastics, encouraging effective separation and increased recycling rates in the Bavarian capital.
Much of this can be recycled, which is why it's helpful to be pre-emptively separated from the general waste.
The yellow bins are to be placed in residential buildings alongside other waste bins - so Munich residents can skip those extra trips to the city's infamous recycling islands in future.
