Germany is grappling with a profound political and geopolitical shift, as recent events have made it evident that the US can no longer be viewed as a reliable ally. Political scientists emphasize the need for Germany to adopt a more independent stance, particularly in light of the recent unsettling actions from the US government. This development occurs at a critical juncture when Germany is forming a new government, leading to concerns about Germany's security and international roles moving forward.
"For the foreseeable future, the US will not be a reliable partner for Europe in terms of values and interests," political scientist Carlo Masala told Deutschlandfunk public radio on Monday morning.
"We have to realize that our most important ally is no longer acting like an ally, but is instead becoming a security risk for Europe," said Claudia Major.
