Virgin Voyages embraces the age-old seafaring tradition of tattooing by introducing Squid Ink studios on its ships, allowing guests to get inked while on board. Each studio features renowned tattoo artists and offers a variety of styles, ensuring a memorable experience for cruisers. Shop manager Sokie Macareno Gomez, who oversees daily operations, notes the connection between artistry and personal expression. Guests have even gotten matching Virgin tattoos in homage to founder Sir Richard Branson, solidifying the cruise line's unique identity in the industry.
"Working with so many world-renowned artists, it's impossible not to want their art on your body," says Sokie Macareno Gomez, shop manager of Squid Ink.
"Our artists can do a full sleeve in realism, fine line, or trash polka," says Macareno Gomez.
"Inking someone on a swaying vessel doesn't impact the quality of the work, thankfully," shares a tattoo artist.
Some sailors, as Virgin calls its guests, are such big fans of Sir Richard Branson, they've gotten tattoos with the company logo.
