Romantic Brutalism, an exhibition by the Visteria Foundation at Milan Design Week 2025, showcases a fusion of Polish craftsmanship and modern design. Curated by Federica Sala, the exhibition features 20 contemporary designers displayed across 14 rooms. The layout is designed as a journey through themes of nature and folk traditions, illustrating their lasting impact on Polish design. This initiative by Visteria Foundation, launched by Katarzyna Jordan, aims to celebrate and elucidate Polish design heritage and innovation, integrating historical influences such as brutalism and romanticism.
'The main idea behind the exhibition was to give every visitor a clear understanding of Polish craft and design. Opening with an introductory section on Polish history, the exhibition will feature around 20 contemporary designers,' Sala shares with designboom.
Curator Federica Sala has arranged the exhibition in 14 rooms to create a structured yet fluid narrative, allowing visitors to engage with different aspects of Polish design.
Folk traditions serve as a foundational theme, emphasizing their continued impact on contemporary practices. Nature, another central theme, is explored in relation to material choices and design philosophies.
Romantic Brutalism brings a selection of Polish craft and design pieces to Milan Design Week 2025, highlighting the role of materiality, form, and technique.
