A 61-year-old man was pulled into an MRI machine at a medical facility in Westbury, Long Island, after he entered an unauthorized MRI room during a scan. The machine's magnetic field attracted a large metallic chain around his neck, which resulted in critical injuries. Witnesses reported witnessing the incident just after 4:30 p.m. on July 15. The man was transported to a local hospital, but as of July 18, the severity of his condition was still unknown. The incident is under investigation by homicide detectives.
According to police, the machine's magnetic field immediately attracted "a large metallic chain" the victim wore, which quickly pulled him into the machine and "resulted in a medical episode."
Just after 4:30 p.m. local time on July 15, officers responded to a medical emergency call at the Nassau Open MRI in the 1500 block of Old Country Road.
