McMahon confirms Trump's plans to dismantle Department of Ed
Briefly

During her confirmation hearing, Linda McMahon reassured senators that she wouldn't close the Education Department without their consent, addressing concerns about her qualifications for Trump's cabinet. She emphasized the need for the department to undergo substantial reform, stating it was burdened with bureaucracy and ineffective in serving students. McMahon aims to 'reorient' the agency, focusing on efficiency rather than defunding education. Although she aligned with Trump's past actions, she pledged to uphold the law and respect Congress's funding authority, suggesting a potentially collaborative approach moving forward.
The department has to go, or at the very least is in need of a major makeover, because it's rife with bureaucracy that fails to serve students well.
We'd like to do this right... a plan that I think our senators could get on board with, and our Congress to get on board with.
The president will not ask me to do anything that's against the law...I will respect Congress's power over the purse strings.
Questions about the department's future and whether McMahon would stand up to President Trump if he tries to break the law dominated the nearly three-hour hearing.
