A recent survey by the Lumina Foundation and Gallup of nearly 14,000 American adults revealed that while there is considerable interest in pursuing higher education, numerous barriers, such as financial constraints, mental health challenges, emotional stress, and class flexibility, hinder many individuals from enrolling or completing programs. The survey found that 57% of respondents had contemplated pursuing a degree in the past two years, highlighting ongoing interest despite a slight drop from the previous year. Notably, there's a marked difference in enrollment likelihood between those who have stopped out versus those who have never started.
American adults recognize the importance of higher education, yet many face obstacles like cost, mental health issues, and class flexibility challenges that hinder enrollment.
The survey indicates that while interest in pursuing credentials remains high, external factors such as stress and financial concerns substantially impact adult learners' educational goals.
