The Colossal Horse by Antonio Canova, a monumental plaster sculpture, is being reassembled after five decades in storage at the Museo Civico in Bassano del Grappa. Originally dismantled in 1969 for relocation during structural repairs, only the horse's head was displayed since then. Created as a model for a bronze statue of Ferdinand I, the horse's unique green paint was meant to simulate bronze patina. While the statue survived WWII undamaged, the disassembly and storage led to significant deterioration. Restoration efforts aim to revive this significant Neoclassical work of art.
