Massachusetts museum reunites 16th c. Dutch triptych
Briefly

The Worcester Art Museum has successfully acquired The Entombment, the central panel of a triptych by Dutch painter Maarten van Heemskerck, reuniting it with its wings after 250 years. The side panels, now on long-term loan from the Selldorff family, complement the central panel painted around 1540. The oil painting was recently rediscovered and sold during the Tefaf Maastricht art fair for $567,000. Marten van Heemskerck, influenced by Italian Renaissance masters, was pivotal in merging Renaissance and Flemish styles, with The Entombment showcasing this fusion.
