HMS Trooper, a missing British submarine, has been discovered under 770 feet of water off the coast of Donoussa, Greece, in the Icarian Sea.
The submarine was thought to have been lost during patrol in the Aegean Sea after failing to land in Beirut on October 17, 1943.
Underwater search team leader Kostas Thoctarides stated that the Icarian Sea is one of the most difficult seas due to strong wind, waves, and underwater currents.
Trooper's wreckage was identified by mapping the seafloor with sonar and using a remotely-operated vehicle, revealing it had broken into three parts, suggesting a naval mine impact.
