A collection of stamps celebrating the medieval rulers known as the Norse-Gaelic Sea Kings of the Isle of Man is set to be released. This collection, featuring six artworks by Manx artist Juan Moore, captures the maritime legacy of the Kingdoms of Man and the Isles. These kingdoms, active from the late 1070s to mid-1260s, were once powerful in the Irish Sea region. R. Andrew McDonald provides historical insights to complement the artistic depictions. The stamps aim to revive interest in these once prominent yet largely forgotten historical figures and realms.
The collection features six dramatic scenes from the era of the Norse-Gaelic 'Sea Kings,' illustrated by Manx artist Juan Moore and researched by Professor R. Andrew McDonald.
During the High Middle Ages, the Isle of Man and the Hebridean islands off the west coast of Scotland were forged into remarkable maritime realms known as the Kingdoms of Man and the Isles.
