Neighborhood Update: We've Finally Taken Down Our Christmas Lights
Briefly

The family decided to take down their Christmas lights after displaying them for nearly six months, despite significant community interest and emotional investment. Initially, the lights inspired hope among neighbors, reflected in messages expressing concern about their longevity. However, technical issues arose such as a sizzle, odor, and a malfunctioning bulb, making the experience frustrating. After assessing repair options and dealing with the stress of maintenance, they ultimately concluded that maintaining the lights was untenable for their family.
We’ve been so touched by the flood of D.M.s to our Instagram, the messages pushed through our mail slot. Heartfelt concerns... particularly moved us, because we could feel the emotional investment some of you had in the longevity of our display.
There were problems almost immediately. The audible sizzle. The constant smell of ozone. The moths. Then, there was the one green bulb that kept fritzing.
You're familiar with the term 'tightly wound'? Well, then you know how being around someone-or something-like that can fracture a family.
It was not an easy decision to make. Our Christmas lights had been up since November, so nearly six months as part of our household!
