Google has updated the suspicious file warnings in Chrome to provide clearer explanations for potentially dangerous file downloads. Enhanced Protection includes automatic scans for files uploaded for deep scanning in the cloud, making them 50 times more likely to be flagged as malware.
Chrome now prompts users to enter passwords for encrypted archive files, like .zip files, for scanning in the cloud. Default settings scan locally; Enhanced Protection scans in the cloud. These updates are live in current Chrome releases.
Google's warnings in Chrome are now categorized as 'suspicious' or 'dangerous' based on AI confidence levels. Users are reported to have responded more promptly to these new warnings and disregarded them less often, as per Google's release statement.
