The U.K. is introducing a cyberattack severity rating system from one to five to provide clearer insights into cyber threats for businesses and policymakers. Managed by the nonprofit Cyber Monitoring Centre, the system will evaluate significant incidents in real time and share results publicly. It aims to improve understanding of cyber events' impact, especially as high-profile cyberattacks rise. Notably, incidents will only be rated if they affect multiple organizations and incur losses over £100 million, emphasizing the seriousness of the risks faced by UK organizations reliant on technology.
The risk of major cyber events is greater now than at any time in the past as UK organisations have become increasingly reliant on technology.
The Cyber Monitoring Centre will assess cyber incidents in real time, similar to the Saffir-Simpson scale, rating incidents from one to five.
