D-Link has advised users of older VPN routers to retire and replace their devices due to a severe remote code execution vulnerability, a significant security risk.
This vulnerability is particularly worrisome because it is an unauthenticated remote code execution issue, allowing attackers to exploit the bug without prior authentication.
D-Link's advisory highlighted that previous incidents with similar vulnerabilities could lead to rootkits, surveillance of web traffic, and potential ransomware deployment.
Given that all affected devices are at end of life and support, D-Link will not issue patches, instead offering a 20% discount on newer models.
