Japan lifted a tsunami advisory for the Izu and Ogasawara Islands after a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck near the uninhabited island of Torishima, with no significant damage reported.
The Japan Meteorological Agency noted that although the earthquake was felt, no major tremors occurred, and the tsunami advisory was lifted shortly after being issued.
Japan, which sits on four major tectonic plates, experiences about 1,500 earthquakes annually. Its advanced building techniques and emergency procedures help mitigate the impact of seismic events.
The Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands, home to around 24,000 residents, received a tsunami advisory but fortunately faced no reports of serious damage following the earthquake.
