In Massimiliano Allegri's 3-5-2 formation, the two wingbacks were primarily responsible for getting vertical and pumping crosses into the box. However, this also served to make Juventus quite predictable and a lot of the Bianconeri's struggles during the second half of the season could be attributed to Allegri being unable to change things around from wide positions.
Next season could be an interesting one for Cambiaso given that incoming manager (and his former manager at Bologna), Thiago Motta, favors a 4-2-3-1 formation. This could require him to play more of a 'stay at home' fullback role and his adaptability to the position could determine his minutes.
