The academy was inaugurated at Termonfeckin Celtic FC by Megan Campbell, a Republic of Ireland football star, in memory of 13-year-old Zara Murphy, who tragically died playing football. Zara idolized Megan and wore the number 11 jersey during her last game. Campbell presented an Irish jersey adorned with Zara's name to her family, highlighting Zara's dreams of playing for Ireland. The academy aims to support 300 girls aged five to nine, promoting women's football in the community and honoring Zara's legacy in sports.
"She might not have ever got to wear this jersey, but it's hers and will always be hers and her name is on the back of it forever - and one day she would have played for Ireland."
"Her energy, her laughter, her smile shone through like no other. It's going to be hard for everyone here to not see that smile anymore, but when the sun's shining, that's Zara."
"Thanks to the club for what you are doing, not only for young girls but for women's football in general to form a pathway for young girls to come through."
"Although Angela, Ben and I would dearly love to still have her here today, we are honoured the club has set up the academy in her memory."
