On April 13, a hiker clinging to a cliff along the Pacific Crest Trail prompted a technical rescue operation by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office. The hiker managed to send an emergency text to 911 despite her precarious situation, where she was found clinging tightly to the cliff face for over an hour. Rescuers arrived and devised a careful plan to extract her safely without risking her fall, employing a helicopter and rope techniques to reach and secure her before bringing her to safety.
We found a hiker death-gripping the cliff, yet she managed to send an emergency text to 911 via her communication device.
It's looking fairly steep, said a rescuer as they approach, with the hiker desperately holding on.
Don't move. Just stay there, urged the rescuer, knowing the hiker was in a precarious position.
After a few tense moments, the rescuer manages to hold the hiker as they are moved up the cliffside.
