Actor Tayme Thapthimthong, who plays Gaitok in HBO's 'The White Lotus', speaks to Travel + Leisure about his unique experiences filming in Thailand. Prior to his role, he had never seen the show but quickly binge-watched its first two seasons. Originally from London, Thapthimthong relocated to Thailand at 22 and has embraced an adventurous lifestyle, enjoying hiking and exploring local provinces. He reflects on the surreal experience of filming in a five-star hotel and his unexpected journey to acting stardom.
It's been amazing, nothing has really made me want to get out of bed this much. Waking up in a five-star hotel every time that I'm filming here has been surreal.
It was something I never actually expected to happen, but it came along and I couldn't be happier. The show that is set primarily at the luxe Four Seasons Koh Samui in Thailand.
Since being here, I'm very adventurous. Within the first three months of being here, I managed to meet someone that brought me down to a province.
I was working as a bodyguard when I got the role on the show—and then watched the first two seasons in a week.
