Kiké Hernández began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City, starting as designated hitter and going 2-for-3 with an RBI double. He is expected to make additional minor-league appearances and probably will rejoin the Dodgers during the upcoming series against the Cincinnati Reds. Manager Dave Roberts plans to give Hernández some starts in left field to improve production amid Michael Conforto's struggles. Hernández missed time since mid-July with left elbow inflammation and underwent nonsurgical procedures that allowed him to resume hitting. His return will bolster an infield missing Max Muncy, Tommy Edman and Hyeseong Kim. Kim has started a rehab assignment and could return late next week; Muncy and Edman are not expected back until September. Hernández is batting .195/.259/.367 with eight home runs and has appeared at six different positions this season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to get back several key contributors in the next few weeks, including Kiké Hernández, who began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday. Hernández started at designated hitter and batted second for the Comets, going 2-for-3 with an RBI double. He also was in the lineup on Thursday and Friday as well.
The utility man might make a couple more appearances at the Minor League level before rejoining the Dodgers. Manager Dave Roberts said Hernández "probably" will return at some point during the Dodgers' series against the Cincinnati Reds that begins Monday. When he does return, Roberts said Hernández will receive some starts in left field as the Dodgers look for more production from the position amid Michael Conforto's season-long struggles.
