Dodgers Spring Training: Shohei Ohtani Working On New Slide
Briefly

Shohei Ohtani faced a serious shoulder injury during the 2024 World Series, requiring an MRI that revealed a partial dislocation and subsequent surgery for a labrum tear. Although he was initially cautious in Spring Training, Ohtani has since returned, debuting in the 2025 Cactus League. To mitigate further injuries, he has changed his sliding technique to keep his left arm close to his body. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts appreciates Ohtani’s awareness of this adjustment, noting its importance in preventing similar issues in the future, especially as he prepares for the upcoming Tokyo Series.
"Even last year, obviously, after the injury, you saw him kind of run around with his left arm at his side. So just kind of being mindful of keeping that left hand and not using it to brace himself when he slides is something that he's really trying to be conscious of."
"No, because I think the thing is when you slide with your right leg leading, it's typically the left arm that goes down, and it's not really the right. So the right doesn't take the brunt of the force."
"Overall, just live plus seeing pitches in Trajekt, I would like to be able to have at least 50 at-bats."
