Shohei Ohtani to Take Major Step in Throwing Program for Dodgers
Briefly

Shohei Ohtani, the reigning National League MVP, is planning a return as a two-way player for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2025. Although he is not starting the season as a pitcher, he is ramping up his throwing progression, expecting to throw his first bullpen session soon. Ohtani is recovering from surgery to repair a torn UCL and a torn labrum, making this offseason particularly challenging. He expressed optimism about his recovery, stating that while he experiences some discomfort, he feels he is on track to return as the team's designated hitter by Opening Day.
While Ohtani isn't going to start the season as a two-way player - or pitch in any Cactus League games - he's already ramping up his throwing progression.
'I do feel like there's some discomfort that I have to still overcome,' Ohtani said of the shoulder injury. 'It's not really debilitating. I feel pretty good almost getting there, to where I want it to be.'
