Rick Caruso's foundation, supported by Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia's $15 million donation, aims to provide nearly 100 prefab homes to wildfire victims in Altadena and Pacific Palisades. Targeting low to moderate income individuals who are uninsured or underinsured, the initiative plans to distribute factory-built homes that are fire-resistant and compatible with existing neighborhood footprints. Samara, co-founded by Gebbia, will work on the installation. The approach seeks to restore hope and accelerate recovery for those affected by the recent wildfires.
"In addition to people getting back into their home quickly, this gives everybody hope who's a victim that change is coming," Caruso said.
"Obviously, that caught my attention," Caruso said of the significant gift.
Samara will also help install the structure permanently, ensuring the home is both functional and durable for its residents.
The program aims to quickly provide housing with a footprint similar to what once stood in the Palisades or Altadena.
